We are scheduled to close on our house in Maumee on Friday, May 4. We are thankful that God provided a buyer for our house and that the closing is almost here. Please pray that everything will go smoothly.
We have been looking for a place to rent here, and it has been somewhat discouraging. First, there are very few places big enough to accomodate our family. In the whole city of 350 thousand currently there are only two houses available in our price range and the size we need. Both of them are at the top of our houising allowance, and one has a bad layout for a family with small kids. The other house is large, but it's far from the stores and the bus stops. We were ready to negotiate and sign a lease on the second house last Monday, but we could not come to an agreement on the price (we were asking to reduce the price since we were going sign a 2-year lease and pay several months in advance). It was difficult to walk away, thinking we are back to square one in our house search.
We also looked at renting an apartment, but currently in the whole city there are only three four-room apartments available for rent, all of them under 1000 sq. feet and on a fourth floor or above. Our container will be arriving within two weeks, and they do not deliver above the second floor.
We were hoping to buy a house here, but the prices are so high we cannot afford to buy one. We were told it will be much less expensive to buy land and build. We are exploring this option, and if we find a lot to buy, we will still need a place to stay for about 18 months while the house is built. Yes, it takes much longer to build a house here. Houses are still made of brick or stone here, and the cement they use for the foundation takes about 4 months to cure.
We trust that the Lord has a place for us. We continue to rely on Him for the timing and the wisdom of knowing how to proceed. Please pray for us.
In Christ,
Jamie and Julia
P.S. Water is off in our apartment building again this morning without any warning! Julia had plans for washing bed sheets (we haven't washed them since we arrived, since we only brought one set for each bed, and there is no dryer). Oh well! We will have to be flexible. This is the third time we are having a water outage since we arrived in mid-March (on top of only having water on a schedule). Please pray for our good attitude.
